Abstract
Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni's Mistress of Spices intricately interlaces themes of spiritual connection and emotional healing through the life of its protagonist, Tilo. Being a Mistress of Spices, Tilo harnesses her strong spiritual connection to mystical spices to heal the physical and emotional wounds of her people. The novel probes how this relationship not only leads to the healing of others but also to the transformation of Tilo herself. The novel explores cultural identity, immigration, and coming to terms with individual aspirations and communal obligations. In the format of magical realism, Divakaruni expresses healing as a multidimensional and interconnected process combined with spirituality, culture, and self-knowledge.
